Healthy cookbook must haves

cookbook

Get back to basics this week with a meal made from scratch. It’s well worth the effort, the proof is in the pudding! The following books are the backbone of my cook book collection:

The Good Gut Cookbook (Rosemary Stanton)

  • If you’d like a bit more ‘know how’ when it comes to cooking, or would just love some tasty yet healthy snacks to make the kids for afternoon tea, this book is an all rounder. A diverse range of recipes for food lovers that is geared toward looking after your digestion and keeping your gut in ‘ship shape’ condition. This book also has information on digestion and the importance of nutrition. Dr Rosemary Stanton is a world class authority in the areas of food, nutrition and health.

Eat to Beat Cholesterol (Nicole Senior and Veronica Cuskelly)

  • Nicole, a leading APD and Veronica, a home economist, have produced a pearler here. This book has meal plans, cooking and shopping tips and explanations of the diet/disease relationship. What’s more the recipes are delicious, easy and good for you! Advice and recipes that can help you lower your blood cholesterol and lose weight sensibly.

Kitchen Garden Companion (Stephanie Alexander)

  • If you like the idea of growing, harvesting and cooking your own food, this is a keeper. This will put you on track to seasonal, pleasurable cooking and eating.

The Cooks Companion (Stephanie Alexander)

  • Arranged alphabetically, a true blue Aussie reference and recipe book, this is a kitchen essential.
