SlimPasta is a new product on the supermarket shelves. It is a pasta alternative made from a vegetable called Konjac.
Konjac is low in calories (kilojoules), low in carbohydrate and high in dietary fibre. It contains glucomannan which is a water-soluble polysaccharide. There is some evidence that glucomannan can help relieve constipation and help with weight loss. We do not recommend taking glucomannan in the form of tablet, capsule or powdered form but it is considered very safe when consumed as an ingredient in food.
SlimPasta looks and tastes (almost!) like real pasta but it has only 12% of the calories of regular pasta. One serve (half a packet) has around 18 calories which is about the same as eating half a cup of broccoli.
SlimPasta comes in 2 varieties (Spaghetti Pasta and Angel Hair Pasta). It costs around $4.00 for a packet which serves two.
As long as you don’t smother it with creamy or cheesy sauce, SlimPasta can be very useful as a weight loss food. Choose tomato or vegetable-based sauces with lean mince or fish and you can enjoy it as a main meal option whenever you like. It is suitable for those with Diabetes.
